I swear, no where else are they used to such extent.

and notice how they aren't wearing helmets either. Seriously, that's weird here. The only people wearing helmets while cycling are tourists, small kids, and these guys:
Giving someone a lift is also quite common:
Someone even made a song out of it!
And not to mention there are specific roads for cycling only!
